Libya Refutes ‘Best Option’ Claim for Gaza DisplacementF

Libya has been in the news lately in relation to the crisis in Gaza. Reports have been suggesting that Libya may be a potential destination for resettling Gaza residents. The reports have sparked controversy, with Libyan authorities firmly rejecting the claims. Israeli media recently floated the idea that Libya could serve as an alternative for displaced Palestinians from Gaza, even calling the North Africa country as the “best option” for resettlement. A report argued that Libya’s vast, sparsely populated areas could accommodate large numbers of people.

Rejecting the idea, Libya’s House of Representatives (HoR) said the claims are baseless and that “Libya would never be part of any such arrangement.” HoR added that Libya’s commitment is to support Palestinian rights, accusing “external actors of spreading misinformation to destabilize Libya and its position on the Palestinian issue.”

The Libyan reaction came from officials of the rival eastern and western factions, uniting in rejecting the alleged plan, adding that for time being Libya is focused on its domestic challenges and has no intention of engaging in foreign-led resettlement initiatives.
