Algeria’s highly unpopular former Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia has been incarcerated on Wednesday, 12 June under a warrant of detention by the investigating judge of the Supreme Court. He is now in the notorious Harrach prison, according to state-owned ENTV news broadcaster.
The former Prime Minister and special advisor to President Bouteflika arrived today early in the afternoon at the Supreme Court where he was heard by the investigating judge. Ouyahia is part of a group of 12 former senior government officials prosecuted for a slew of crimes, including illegal awarding of public contracts, according to a Supreme Court statement. The statement, issued on 26 May indicates that the case against the Prime Minister has been building for some time.
