Facing fast-moving geopolitical changes and threats, Algeria is currently updating its defense-related laws, with a new legislation on general mobilization. The proposed law was submitted by the justice ministry to the national assembly, stating that it is in line with Article 99 of the Constitution. The authors of the draft law say its aim is “to strengthen the nation’s defensive capabilities and enhance the capacities of the armed forces by providing them with all available means and resources to enable them to defend the country.” The draft document puts forward “a set of measures to effectively transition the armed forces, state institutions, national organizations and establishments, as well as the national economy, from a state of peace to a state of war.”
