The North Africa Journal’s parent company, MEA Risk LLC, tracks critical incidents affecting countries in the Middle East and Africa (MEA). With the governments in the region increasing their crack down on independent journalism, this initiative is meant to keep information on the region front and center, and identify the root-causes of instability, including social unrest, environmental issues, development issues, political unrest and insecurity. The information is gathered through a network of correspondents on the ground. As we are looking to expand, we need individuals interested in monitoring specific regions and countries. The candidates that will be selected to join us will work as volunteer for a determined period of time and will then have the opportunity to join our organization as paid full-time, part-time or contract employees. The volunteer period is to ensure that the selected candidates are fit to work in our environment.
MEA Risk is looking for skilled volunteers to help with:
1- Identifying and selecting incidents
2- Summarizing and formatting them for publishing in MEA Risk’s cloud platform ‘The Critical Incident Tracker’ database.
The result is then made available for and broadcast to a variety of stakeholders, including humanitarian agencies, charities and others.
Length of Term:
We are asking volunteers to commit to a minimum of three months at a time. We want to move the organization forward and reach readers around the world who have an interest in the region, therefore committing quarterly segments will allow for NAJ to measure success accurately and efficiently. Successful trackers will be transferred to paying positions, if they meet the minimum requirement of the position.
Meetings and Time Commitment:
- MEA Risk will need Trackers and Monitors that are able to commit two hours daily for at least three months
- Check in daily with Chief Analyst for the first month, and then weekly thereafter
- Attend at least one board meeting to stay updated and knowledgeable of MEA Risk and its advancements
- Candidates must have access to the Web and be accessible via WhatsApp, Skype, regular phone and email.
Expectations:
Job Types: Volunteer, Internship with opportunity to move to paying assignment after trial period.
