The outcome of this warfare remains unclear, but in the current situation, it is about the military command attempting to neutralize non-military units that have been reporting to the now jailed intel chief Toufik Mediene, and remain loyal to him. Military chief Gaid Salah and his commanders are working to consolidate their powers, and they know that reducing the prerogatives of Mediene’s covert networks is a critical condition for continuation.
